FAQ

Q&A - Digital Assets Explained

What are Digital Assets?

Digital assets are data that possess economic, legal, or utility value and are stored or used in digital form. They can include a wide range of items, from photos, documents, and videos to cryptocurrencies and tokenized assets. This definition encompasses everything that has been created and stored digitally, is identifiable, discoverable, and possesses or provides value. The value can be monetary or intangible.

The terms “cryptocurrencies” or “digital currencies” are commonly used in the crypto ecosystem. However, the terminology preferred by regulatory bodies is “crypto-assets” or “digital assets”. This distinction arises from the fact that although often called “cryptocurrencies”, these assets do not qualify as currencies in a legal sense. “Digital assets” is a broader concept, encompassing, for example, software licenses, digital media, or trademarks managed electronically, as well as cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin. Crypto-assets are digital assets based on cryptographic principles, traded in a peer-to-peer system on a decentralized network, thanks to distributed ledger technologies such as blockchain.

The digital currency market is global, operates 24/7, and is characterized by high volatility and a wide variety of assets (over 15,000 tokens). With distributed liquidity and diverse financial instruments, it offers many trading opportunities. Limited institutional capital creates space for advanced hedging strategies.
